Created by friends of long-time PCDA contributor and supporter, Carolyn Watson, this fund is named to honor her many contributions, as well as acknowledge her lifelong engagement in the arts. Helping to explain her involvement with PCDA is this excerpt from a speech she gave recently when she was recognized with the PCDA Humanitarian Award:

PCDA Watson “One family transformed by PCDA has been mine. My husband Craig and I will be forever grateful for the support given to our son Zachary. When we moved back to California several years ago, we at times felt overwhelmed trying to navigate the services potentially available to help Zach. Diane (Cullinane) helped us identify the right PCDA team members to work with Zach and better understand some of the complex issues underlying his needs. I am so proud of Zach and all he has and will accomplish. Many of the learning strategies and coping skills he developed through PCDA have helped him to become who he is today. When we visit PCDA, we can’t help but be inspired by the support being provided to so many young people and their families. The services provided are customized to meet children wherever they are in their development and help them grow into a whole person.”

Carolyn’s husband Craig recently testified on PCDA’s behalf at a legislative hearing in Sacramento:

“I recently was able to visit the Pasadena-based center where our son received treatment several years ago and found it to be filled with happy young people and happy parents…many with similar stories as ours. They had tried other interventions, yet this was the place and form of treatment that worked for their child. I am proud to say that Zach, now 20, recently got his high school diploma and is enrolled in a special animation and digital media program that attempts to tap the unique skills and interests of young people on the autistic spectrum…hoping to prepare them for “real jobs” in the film and television post-production community.”

The Carolyn Watson Creative Arts Fund, created to underscore the value of art and music as a tool to transform the lives of our children, underwrites PCDA’s Creative Arts therapies and services, and provides scholarships for PCDA services such as Music Therapy, Adapted Music Lessons, Adapted Art Lessons or Creative Arts Summer Camp.
