Anne Davis, MS, CCC-SLP is the Director of Therapy Services at Professional Child Development Associates. Anne has been a practicing speech-language pathologist at PCDA for over 20 years, first as a staff clinician, then additionally serving as Speech Language Department Head since 2006. She has been an active participant in the PCDA feeding conference team, presenting throughout the country. Anne holds a DIR-Expert certification through the International Council on Development and Learning (ICDL).
Prior to joining PCDA, Anne worked in various locations on the East and West Coasts. Anne was the Director of Speech-Language therapy at the Special Needs/United Cerebral Palsy in Bridgeport, Connecticut where she gained extensive experience building communication systems using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) for non-speaking children and participating on the multi-disciplinary feeding team for the UCP school. Anne then gained experience working with children with autism at The Children’s House preschool in New York City. She changed her professional focus to Hospital-Based speech-language pathology after relocating to the West Coast, with emphasis on communication, cognition and dysphagia (feeding disorders) in children and adults. She worked at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in acute care and rehabilitation and at Los Angeles County/ University of Southern California medical center in acute care in conjunction with Otorhinolaryngology/ Head and Neck Surgery. She brings this medical experience to PCDA’s clinical work.
Anne holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Audiology and Speech Science from Michigan State University and a Master of Science in Communication Disorders from the University of Michigan. She is a Hanen-certified instructor of It Takes Two to Talk, a course that provides parents with strategies to facilitate their child’s speech and language development and has taught this 10-week course multiple times at PCDA. Anne has also taught parent education classes through the Koch-Young Resource Center and Head Start workshops. She has presented on prelinguistic development at the quarterly California Interagency Coordinating Council.
Anne is a member of the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association (ASHA) and the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CSLHA). She received the CSLHA, District 7 Outstanding Achievement Award in 2012, for co-founding the Southern California AAC Network (SCAACN), for professionals to collaborate and share best practices within the area of AAC.
Anne is a strong advocate for the knowledge that child development does not occur in isolation. Children are learning and growing during every experience. At PCDA we know that the child’s family is comprised of the most important people in that child’s life and that it is our role to partner together when providing therapeutic services. This knowledge is why Anne is dedicated to the strong relationship-based DIR program at PCDA. She is honored to participate in the journey of the children and families or our PCDA community.
